CHESTERTOWN — The Chestertown Garden Club presented a number of proposed landscaping improvements to Memorial Park on April 1; plans now unanimously approved by Mayor David Foster and the Town Council.

On Monday, Town Manager Larry DiRe said staff gave their recommendation the plan be approved as well.

The idea the club presented to the council was to create a colorful garden at the Cross Street entrance adding native and non-native perennials, and then a sense of enclosure at the opposite side, replacing Golden Rain Trees with columnar Amelanchier or Sourwood trees.

Benches and planting will be placed for reflection and rest according to the plans. Evergreens will be planted also, marking the significant importance of the site.
